  1. PEOPLE & PERFORMANCE

JVAT makes every effort to ensure personal career objectives are met and strive to attract, develop, and retain employees of the highest quality.

JVAT is wholly committed to the prevention of modern slavery in the workplace. We do not tolerate slavery and human trafficking in any of our operations, including our supply chains. Where there is evidence of suspected or real actions by our employees or suppliers which are in breach of modern slavery legislation that is in place in any of the countries in which we operate, we will require that the non-compliance is remedied before allowing work to continue.

Actions that are deemed non-compliant include, but are not limited to, engaging in forms of forced labour or human trafficking, engaging in child labour, withholding worker identity or immigration documents, charging workers or potential workers with recruitment fees as defined by legislation, and engaging with any supply chain organisations or individuals that do not comply with labour laws of the countries in which they operate.

1.1 EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY

1.1.1 All applicants for employment and all existing employees are treated according to their skills, qualifications, abilities, and aptitudes, regardless of their gender, race, disability, age, marital status, or religion. If employees have queries regarding any equality and diversity requirements, they can speak with a member of the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Committee or the ELT. Equality and diversity queries may include requests for leave to attend religious services or to observe holy days and allowances for cultural dress and appearance requirements.

1.1.2 JVAT requires suppliers to conform to minimum labour standards as set out by the Australian National Employment Standards (NES) or equivalent Government body. Employees will be provided training according to the international labour standards on:

a. Freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining

b. The elimination of all forms of forces or compulsory labour

c. The effective abolition of child labour

d. The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

1.1.3 JVAT is wholly committed to the prevention of modern slavery in the workplace.

1.1.4 We do not tolerate slavery and human trafficking in any of our operations including our supply chains. Where there is evidence of suspected or real actions by our employees or suppliers which are in breach of modern slavery legislation that is in place in any of the countries in which we operate, we will require that the non-compliance is remedied before allowing work to continue.

1.1.5 Actions which are deemed non-compliant include but are not limited to: engaging in forms of forced labour or human trafficking, engaging in child labour, withholding worker identity or immigration documents, charging workers or potential workers with recruitment fees as defined by legislation, and engaging with any supply chain organisations or individuals that do not comply with labour laws of the countries in which they operate in.

Modern Slavery Prevention in Procurement & Supply Chain

1.1.6 JVAT carries out detailed financial and legal due diligence checks for all supplier arrangements, new or ongoing. All supplier agreements state JVAT’s intolerance for any actual or suspected breaches to modern slavery legislation and inform the supplier of their responsibility to prevent this occurring.

Modern Slavery Prevention in our Workplace

1.1.7 JVAT considers itself low risk to modern slavery legislation breaches, as our operations take place in low-risk countries and industries.

1.1.8 However, even with the low to no risk that JVAT faces, we acknowledge our responsibility to ensure all employees are aware of modern slavery in the workplace, and how to identify the signs of slavery and human trafficking. JVAT requires all staff to complete annual compliance training, in which there is a section which explains what modern slavery is, how to identify modern slavery, and JVAT’s no tolerance policy to any real or suspected actions of modern slavery.

1.1.9 Any employee wishing to raise a concern about modern slavery may do so by raising a Grievance Form (available on our SharePoint site) or requesting a meeting with a member of the ELT.
